What's Happening in the Club - March

In The Club…

The 37th annual Syttendai Mai run/walk is coming up May 16th, and we are gearing up to participate!  Join us as a volunteer and work at the registration table for the very first 10 mile run ever!  This year, the Syttendai Mai Committee is adding a 10 mile run to the current run and walk.  This run will use the same route as the 20 mile run from Madison and 17 mile non-competitive walk.  At the 10 mile marker of this route, Navitas will be registering folks and our very own Mike Wilk will be starting the race!  More information is to come about the newly added "10 mile run" and registration forms will be available in the club this month.  If you want to help us out at the table, just let us know!  We are looking for 8-10 people to help out.  Look for more information on the route to be posted on the member board as we get it!

Also, "Team Navitas" is forming for the Relay for Life walk through the American Cancer Society coming up in June.  The sign up is at the front counter.  Anyone who is interested in joining the team is welcome!  Last year we raised about $1700 dollars.  This year, the team has been handed off to Staci Wilk who is new to the event, but very excited about supporting the cause.  If you have any questions, stop in to see her!

And remember, St. Pat's Day is coming up March 17th!  We will do another Happy Hour between 5pm and 7pm on the 17th where 7 lucky winners will be chosen to win a grab bag.  Be sure to put your name in the drawing!

In Personal Training...

We are sad to say that The Biggest Loser Contest has been postponed!  We will continue to gather interest for this event with the hopes that we will be able to schedule it as a summer event.  Enrollment forms are still available at the front desk NOW!  Stop by to find out more information.

And in the meantime, we will be ramping up for TRX Personal and Duet Training Sessions. TRX has arrived and it is set up in the old reformer room behind the Spinning room (Studio 2).  Ask a front desk attendant if you would like to take a look.  Training for the Navitas Staff will take place on-site in the month of March and then they will begin to make personal training sessions available as well as duet training sessions.  Look for more information on these in the month of March.

In Boot Camps...

March Bootcamps include another Kettlebell class happening Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:30pm with Mike.  Also, new to the mix are Youth Boot Camps!  Offered on Sunday afternoons, the Youth Boot Camp will provide a challenging workout to youth groups 8-12 or 13-15.  Sign your youth up and come in to work out while they do, too!  Literature is available at the front desk.  Spots are filling up fast, so contact us today at 873-7799 and sign up!

In Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution...

Things are changing up in the Thin and Healthy office!  Look for the Thin and Healthy office to make a move at the end of the month.  We are looking to realign our space slightly, so the main office will be moving back by the space we are now using for the Metabolism Re-Training Classes and Circuit (MRC).  We hope that this realignment of our health club space will better serve our customers.  Any questions, stop in today and ask a coach about it!

In Kids Clubhouse…

Did You Know…

The Navitas Kid’s Clubhouse opened in November 2007. The first support person to join me in caring for the children was Celia Woods, beginning in December 2007. More recently, Celia completed high school and turned 18 in January. Over the past two years, Celia has become a valuable member of our Clubhouse team. Celia does a very good job interacting and playing with the kids while also providing healthy discipline and encouraging the children to treat each other with kindness. In addition to Celia’s support role during peak usage hours, she will now be the primary caregiver on Wednesday evenings. Please join me in congratulating Celia on her recent accomplishments. ~ Teresa

As March roars in like a lion, and we look forward to it going out like a lamb, the kids will have the opportunity to make lion, lamb and leprechaun crafts. We will also be encouraging the kids to be active by participate in tag games. See you at the Clubhouse!

In Group Fitness…

With March upon us, look for the new schedules coming out for the second 10 week cycle.  Changes in this cycle include moving Pilates from 9:00am on Mondays to 8:15 am.  Also, some news in Yoga...  Karen Wissell will be stepping away from her Saturday Hatha Yoga Class.  She will remain with us as a sub, so we will see her periodically.  In Place of Hatha Yoga on Saturdays at 9:15am will be Yin Yoga with Ania.  Note: there will also be a time change from 9:15am to 9:30am.

Yin Yoga Description:
A 1 Hour class that works deeply into muscles and connective tissues through extended holds of postures. It is the perfect class for meditators & those who lack flexibility because we will be working deeply into the body. The focus is less on fitness and more on restoration, de-stressing, & relaxation. Most forms of Yoga practiced in the U.S. are Yang; they emphasize muscular movement, contraction, and stabilization (all of which are important). Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue especially in the hips, pelvis and lower spine, and emphasizes deep tissue opening and restoration. This type of practice complements the our more muscular styles of Yoga like Forrest and Yogalates. We hope you enjoy the combination of challenge and relaxation with this class.

Lastly, Tuesday morning spinning will be dropping back down to 1 morning class starting at 8:15am as the warmer outdoor weather begins to come our way and folks start cycling outdoors.

All changes take effect starting March 14th.  Any questions, feel free to touch base with Cindy Halvensleben.

In Workshops…

No Workshops are scheduled for March, but April will kick things off with a Sunday afternoon workshop for Qi Gong with Colleen Lewis.  Look for registration forms and more information on this Mid March.  The date is still yet to be determined.
